Friday Volunteers Needed for Learning Hub

Next date is Friday, November 6th, 2020

(For M-Th, see additional event listing with the M-Th schedule.)

We're grateful to host students whose classes are currently all online.

To continue doing this well and to be able to increase the days we're open to include Monday and Wednesday, we need more volunteers to serve as supervisors. Supervisors aren't expected to be teachers but will commit to a regular day/s and time/s each week so that we have consistency. We need two supervisors present at all times in order to serve our students.

If you are interested, you'll need to complete an online screening which includes a background check. You'll also be willing to abide by the following program description:

    • 8am-3pm, Monday through Thursday and 8am-12pm on Fridays (or as much as possible)
    • If a supervisor can’t serve all day, they can serve for a set period of time. For example, 8am-11am or 11am-3pm or something like that. As long as the time and day(s) can be set in stone, that’ll work well.
  • TASKS:
    • Welcome students between 8am and 8:30am (if serving in the morning).
    • Morning temperature checks with a touchless thermometer before the student enters the building.
    • Invite students to switch outdoor shoes for indoor shoes.-Invite students to wash their hands as soon as shoes are switched and bags are set on chairs.
    • Have students use hand sanitizer after leaving the bathroom (in addition to hand washing).
    • Periodically wipe down door knobs with disinfectant wipes.
    • Help students stay on task. Refer to the school schedule to know when online times begin and end.
    • Distribute lunch at 11am (for those getting lunch from CCSD). Lunch & recess period ends at 12pm.
    • Have students wipe down tables after lunch. Wipe after them before they get back to work. (We will do a complete cleaning after each day.)
    • Troubleshoot student’s tech issues (if you’re able).
    • Note where printed registration forms are kept in case you need parent or emergency contact details. They’ll be in a blue folder over by the power bank.
    • Complete an online screening. It includes a background check which takes a few days to process. >>>
      • Choose: Georgia (for state) >> Georgia Cumberland Conference (for conference)
    • Create an account and proceed.
    • Email online copy of completion certificate to in order to get approved as a volunteer.
    • Have indoor shoes that you can leave in the building.
    • Wear a mask and/or face shield.
    • Maintain physical distance from students as much as possible. Of course, if you’re helping them, you’ll need to break that distance for as long as needed.
    • Help students maintain physical distancing.
