Description

We are looking forward to our Experience UGA trips for the semester! 

NOTE: Shifts with lock codes are for Experience UGA Ambassadors or specific student groups. If you would like to learn more about our Ambassador program, please contact us at experienceuga@gmail.com

Any shift without a lock code is open for  general volunteers! We need general volunteers to assist with the lunch portion of the day.
Trip Description:  

10th grade students will be hosted by the College of Environment and Design at 3 different locations across campus to participate in the below activities.

  1. JSB Studio Life Volunteer - Help lead 10th graders on a tour of JSB studios to talk about studios vs high school classrooms, LEED components of the building, examples of studio work, and then facilitate small group design exercise with balloons and tape. 12 positions (including Leads, general volunteers and “actors”).
  2. Hand Graphics Volunteer - Help lead lesson about 2D hand graphics to 10th graders (2 CED volunteers per 15 high schoolers). Students will learn quick conceptual graphics and apply these skills to re-design an outdoor gathering space at their high school (parameters provided). 12 positions (including Leads, general volunteers and “actors”).
  3. North Campus Walk Volunteer - Help lead one of 3 walking tours on north campus focused on historic architecture, designed spaces, plants and campus culture. 12 positions (including Leads, general volunteers and “actors”).


Guidelines for the trip: 

o CED volunteers must complete the online orientation training video for Experience UGA: https://ugeorgia.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9Y7IJlm9V3zvlf7
o Pizza will be provided!
o You are responsible for transportation to the trip site.
o Review information and location for your assigned shift beforehand.
o Be prepared to engage high school students! 
o Do not have any food or drink with you during the trip. 
o Have fun with the students! 

Rain Plan: In the event of rain, this trip may be cancelled--any cancellation will be announced via email.

Requirements
Volunteers must complete the Online Experience UGA Orientation linked in this trip description or have attended an orientation session. CED students must review the information for their activity before this trip.

Overview:

Then, the group will gather in the large critique space where they will participate in teams for a design challenge to build a structure out of balloons and tape. CED volunteers will motivate students and provide encouragement and minimal assistance. Some groups will be selected to present their designs and receive critique from CED volunteers.

Note: This 45 minute module will be repeated 3 times with a 15 minute break in-between. Volunteers will stay the duration of the field trip at this module location.

Overview:
Help lead lesson about 2D hand graphics to 10th graders (2 CED volunteers per 15 high schoolers). With the script and examples provided, you will provide an overview of how landscape architects approach a re-design of a space, present the basics of hand graphics, assist students in practicing technique, and group them into teams to redesign an outdoor space on their campus.

Note: This 45 minute module will be repeated 3 times with a 15 minute break in-between. Volunteers will stay the duration of the field trip at this module location.

Overview:
CED volunteers will lead one of 3 different walking tours of north campus with a different theme -- a plant tour, an architectural tour, a student culture tour. Other CED volunteers will be “planted” in these spaces to field a discussion (or skit!) about how they use the space. Locations include: The Arch, Main Library, Chapel Bell, Herty Field, and Founders Garden. Each location will prompt talking points on the history, architecture, traditions and/or plantings, and how they are being used (studying, relaxing, teaching, inspiring, framing) in the landscape.

Note: This 45 minute module will be repeated 3 times with a 15 minute break in-between. Volunteers will stay the duration of the field trip at this module location.

These volunteers will help with the setup, distribution, and cleanup of pizza to all Experience UGA participants. Volunteers will receive free pizza for lunch.
